September 19, 2012 Wednesday Off to St Sebastian
Departed Bilboa after our usual coffee and croissants for Guernica for tour of the Peace Museum which memorialized the bombing raid by the German Luftwaffe in 1937. Franco had given Hitler permission to test their blitzkrieg bombing techniques on this Basque capital city. Very moving exhibits and narratives of the aftermath. A copy of Picasso's famous painting depicting the event hangs in the museum. A very curvy drive through beautiful forests and mountains with dozens of round-abouts and we stopped for late lunch in the fishing village of Lekeitio on the Gulf of Biscay. It was only due to the use of the Albon's GPS that we are making it through this country. Further on we settled in at St Sebastian, a beautiful coastal city on the Bay of Concha. The Spanish Film Festival will be held here the day after we leave on Friday.
